With the long warm days of summer upon us, it’s time to celebrate being outdoors with a look at how we can apply our interior skills to our home’s exteriors!
The first place that you’ll want to get to grips with, is of course, the garden. It’s the natural space to enjoy the sunshine and host parties with friends and family. So gathering the right garden furniture and accompanying decorations is key to creating the right atmosphere.
This urban garden is given the genteel touch with ornate white garden furniture, a wonderfully tiled patio table and a host of hanging birdhouses to invite a bit of wildlife to share the idyllic space.
Whereas this garden furniture uses the same idea but really ramps up the fun factor! The pale white furniture is given an invigorating dose of colour with a bold, red painted table, multi-coloured balloons and some seriously party-inducing lighting!
But of course, your outdoor spaces are also where you’ll be wanting to relax. And what other item of furniture can summon up the feeling of sleepy summer afternoons than the hammock? This hammock below is made of a luxurious purple fabric which creates a beautifully rich contrast to the sharp whitewashed walls and crisp straight lines of the patio.
The good thing about outdoor spaces is that we can be a little more creative with our design ideas. Possibly because there is more space, you’ll just want to experiment by placing indoor objects in unusual places as illustrated by this folksy string of animal teacups hanging from a branch!
And the other great joy of outdoor design is the transient nature of the spaces you occupy. This beach wigwam really illustrates the get-up-and-go aspect by using ramshackle branches held together by red string, accompanied by handwritten signs, and soft pastel coloured fabrics that creates an easy-going space where you can relax and watch the warm summer days drift by!
